Is the youth today losing knowledge of the past, and other classic material?

This is a question I've wondered forever (Hopefully I worded it right, I was wondering how to do that). But Just to add on to it I'm only 15, so I've seen this first hand.

Okay well where I'm coming from is that, every teenager is only interested in is popular media belief (IE Girls are all over Twilight when it, itself is not a good book, and Boys are all over bands (IE Bullet For My Valentine) that I consider not really good) and other things that they seem to follow. But to me they are losing the classics I mean I listen to Hip Hop but I still can play some Louis Armstrong, Nick Drake, and Terry Riley compositions and read books from the likes of Friedrich Nietzsche, Derrick Jensen, and others. I enjoy modern day art but still have to give the originators of art their due respect. But back to the subject matter, with kids today not wanting to really learn about the past and enjoy it, will we in the future lose it?

We are all evolving as is what is around us. As well, our music tastes also change. First thing I want to say is that I haven't even heard of a band called Bullet For My Valentine and that your perception seems to be revolving around what's current and that you're not looking at what is beyond it. If you look a little bit closer, you may find teenagers who are actually into oldies - just not the oldies you like. You may like Louis Armstrong and all those people, but I may not be interested in such people. I might be interested in ABBA and the Beatles instead. Anyway, it's that saying "To each his own". This is a rhetorical question with no means of offense: What does it matter to you what teens like anyway? Regardless whether many people lose the "classics" in the future, you'll still have it (maybe, who knows what the future holds), won't you? By the way, I agree with you about the Twilight craze. So much Twilight fanatics and so much obsessive people, Twilight has become overrated. And the movie isn't even that good. Anyway, what I want to say is that what you may consider classics is not what others may consider classics. That's your own opinion about what classics are. Classics for me would probably be ABBA, The Carpenters, etc.

"But back to the subject matter, with kids today not wanting to really learn about the past and enjoy it, will we in the future lose it?"

When you say that, I don't know what you are referring to. Are you referring to the history of pop culture, or history in general? Like the history of countries, Rome, Canada, etc? If so, I would also again like to say that everybody has different interests. I have a history exam tomorrow, and I am having a lot of trouble absorbing the information simply because I am not interested and I find it so boring. But is that my fault? No, it's not. It's simply the way I am and the way i've become. I can't help what i'm interested in, just like you. However, in saying that; just because I do not like a certain part of history doesn't mean I don't like a different part of history. Besides that, there's always going to be somebody out there who's interested in history. Hope my insight helped.

16 years old.
