Classic Furniture vs Modern Furniture: What to Choose?

Furniture pieces are very significant interior decorating elements in a home. More than their aesthetic value, the practical uses and the convenience that furniture pieces bring to modern day living are very astonishing.

In Tampa FL, for instance, furniture pieces have made lives of people easy. Be it at home or at the office, furniture pieces have helped people in one way or another.

There are many types and styles of furniture pieces that are available today. Two of the most popular among these are classic furniture and modern furniture pieces.

It does not take a professional furniture maker to differentiate among the two. There are basic differences that can be spotted even by the a simple home owner in Tampa FL. Here are some of the basic differences between a classic furniture and a modern furniture.

1. Size

Classic furniture are designed in large sizes primarily due to the need to fit big rooms. Old houses are huge unlike moderns that are compact to save space now that there is a need to conserve land as a resource. This being so, modern furniture are designed to be more compact and space saving to adapt to the needs of today. If before a seat made following classic styles of furniture making can accommodate  two people , modern ones may either break or cause uneasiness.

2. Weight

Because of their compact size, modern furniture pieces are lighter than classic ones. Most modern furniture pieces are made from light materials such as laminated wood and wrought iron. These are the popular materials used for today's office, kitchen, and bedroom furniture needs. Other materials for modern day furniture are strengthened plastic, fiber glass, and iron bases. If you have noticed, most airports make use of plastic lounge seats in their waiting areas.

Classic furniture, on the other hand, are made from solid wood. Their cushions or mattresses used to be stuffed with horse hair and cotton to achieve maximum comfort. They more often than not use silk and cotton unlike modern ones that use polyesters, bi leather, and other man made fabrics.

3. Colors

This is perhaps one of the most noticeable difference between the two. Classic furniture in Tampa FL are dark colored. Modern furniture tend to use a wide range of hues. For instance, if wrought iron id grey, dark blue, or black, the color monotony can be broken down by using light colored fabrics or steel brass. Fabrics used in modern furniture have deviated also from the staple flowers, or single colored ones use in classical furniture to include animal prints such as zebra stripes.

4. Ease of Maintenance

Assembly, disassembly, and maintenance of modern furniture is easier than that of classical ones. There are cleaners, polishers and even stain removers that are available in various furniture stores nowadays to keep modern furniture from looking worn and torn.

However, classic furniture are much sturdy and longer lasting since they are made from more durable materials such as solid wood. It takes a long time before they look old.

5. Ergonomics

Because modern furniture benefitted more from the advancements in technology, it is much more ergonomically design than its classic counterparts. For instance, modern chairs are not that stiff, their back rest fits follow the shape of the spine, etc. They tend to be more body friendly over the formal and stiff designs of the classical era.
